TWO FILIPINOS - John Earl Medina and Gabby Ramos - have earned the right to travel to Paris to complete against some of the best one-on-one players in the world for the chance to be the Jordan Brand's 'The One.'
Medina, a juniors standout from Adamson, and 17-year old Ramos will be part of a starting field of 20 youngsters from around the world who qualified through tournaments held in Manila, Shanghai, Los Angeles, New York, Paris, and several other cities globally all summer.
Ramos is part of the Gilas Pilipinas Women that took part in the last Jones Cup in Taipei.
Representing the US (NY, Chicago, Los Angeles), Asia-Pacific (Philippines, Japan, Australia), and Europe (London, Paris), the 20 young men and women will compete starting on July 26 for a spot in the finals bracket where a male and female winner will be crowned.
The winners will become part of the Jordan Brand family as brand ambassadors under year-long partnership.
Basketball culture
“Basketball is very big in my city,” said Medina. “Everywhere you go you see kids playing (the game) barefooted. That’s how passionate we Filipinos are for basketball. I’m excited to show what Philippine basketball is like to the world.”
Ramos said: “I’m looking forward to having a great experience representing the flag; it’s an honor to be in such great company. It will be a very competitive environment and we want to showcase what the Philippines has to offer, basketball-wise – that we do stand with the best of the best around the world and we can show people what we’re made of here."

This tournament harkens back to the very origins of the Jumpman, a product of Michael Jordan’s legendary one-one-one backyard battles against his brother, Larry.
