WITH his blinding pace on the court, it didn't take long for UST Growling Tigers rookie Mark Nonoy to make his presence felt in the collegiate stage.
Some netizens even labeled him as the UAAP's "The Flash," the DC Comics superhero possessing super speed.
Living up to the hype, Nonoy laced up a Flash-themed Nike PG 3 by sneaker customizer JoKer Kustoms din their game against La Salle on Wednesday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
"'The Flash' kasi isa talaga ito sa mga paborito kong movie, sobrang bilis niya and tumutulong din siya sa mga tao," he shared, adding that he admires not just the character's superpower, but also the relatable qualities. "Sa tingin ko, bagay din naman talaga sa'kin kasi sabi nila mabilis ako."
Even his shoe artist came to notice the Negros Occidental standout's lightning quickness: "I've seen him play and he is fast. I think it represents him well, as he goes coast to coast in like three or two seconds. Man, that's just fast."
The creative mind behind the custom pair also revealed that Nonoy had him choose between The Flash and another popular speedy character, Sonic, and he picked the "Scarlet Speedster."
When asked about his signature fleet-footedness, Nonoy recalled how he fell in love with running. His first sport was actually track and field, and speed actually runs in their blood.
He said, "Nahiligan ko din kasi noon 'yung track and field kasi 'yung mother ko, track athlete talaga. Pero nung tumagal, mas nagustuhan ko talaga ang basketball."
