Jerwin Ancajas joins Eumir Marcial in airsoft cross-training

Ancajas finds airsoft competition a perfect cross-training
Aug 25, 2020

WORLD champion Jerwin Ancajas found a way to cross-train while awaiting his next title defense.

It comes in the form of airsoft competition.

The reigning International Boxing Federation (IBF) super-flyweight champion did the recreational sport along with Olympic-bound and now pro Eumir Marcial over the weekend in General Trias, Cavite, and found it a perfect way to stay in shape and keep himself in fighting condition.

“Niyaya siya in Eumir. First time ni Jerwin na mag-try (nito). Masaya, nagustuhan niya naman,” said long-time trainer Joven Jimenez.

Of course, strict health protocols were observed, with the game held in a huge outdoor field with the use of replica guns.

Both fighters are reservists in the Armed Forces, with Ancajas a member of the Philippine Navy, while Marcial is with the Philippine Air Force.

From the looks of it, the sport which simulates armed military encounter, may be easy for a world champion like the 28-year-old Ancajas.

But it wasn’t.

“Naka-limang palit ng damit si Jerwin,” Jimenez shared. “Maganda rin kasi papawisan ka ng husto.”

The native of Panabo, Davao Del Norte was so spent that by the time they were over that shortly after, Ancajas already fell asleep.
