After four seasons in the PBA, Meralco guard Baser Amer is still hoping to get his dream jersey number.
The 26-year old Davao native, who used to wear No. 7 in high school and college, has been donning the jersey No. 9 in the professional league.
If he had a choice, he would still continue to use the No. 7. But when he played in the PBA, Cliff Hodge was already wearing it and so he had no choice but to pick the last available playing number.
Tapos pagdating ko sa PBA, naging No. 9,” he said.
“Pero malay mo pag tumagal makuha ko rin [ulit ‘yung No. 7],” he added.
Amer’s dream of getting back his favorite jersey can come true if the rumored trade will push through.
According to reports, he will be sent to TNT KaTropa, where no one yet wears the No. 7.
But Amer insisted that in the four seasons he's been using it, he has learned to love No. 9.
“Oo, nasasanay na rin ako,” he said.
The soft-spoken cager explained that jersey No. 7 holds a special place in his heart because of his mother’s birthday, which falls on January 7.
“Ever since high school ako sa Davao and sa San Beda, No. 7 talaga ako kasi favorite number ko yun, yun yung birthday ng nanay ko,” he said.
