PANDEMIC style… and safety.
On their website, UNIQLO Japan has released a first look at their face masks. As expected from the company, they’re sleek and minimalist. They come in white, but no other announced colors.
Each mask has three layers. The first is a UV protected outer shell that blocks 90% of ultraviolet rays. Below that is a bacteria- and virus-resistant central layer that, according to the Google translation of the Japanese site, “suppresses the diffusion of droplets and blocks fine particles.”
The layer closest to the skin is made from the brand’s signature AIRism fabric, which is used in a variety of other products like shirts and underwear.
UNIQLO recommends that you wash the mask every day, and says that it is good for up to 20 washes.
A pack of three masks will retail for ¥990, or around P466. They will be released in Japan on June 19, with a worldwide release expected soon after.
Initially reluctant to produce PPEs for retail, UNIQLO noted a high demand from their customers for face masks, and announced that they would produce the masks during the end of May. Prior to that, they have been donating medical grade masks to hospitals and frontliners worldwide.
