WEEKEND bikers get a chance to become competitive cyclists and casual joggers can evolve into avid runners as the second Filinvest Endurance Weekend 2014: Ride, Rock, and Run is slated this November.
After the overwhelming response from the first staging of the Endurance Weekend held in 2013, Filinvest City has redesigned this year’s edition by opening the event to more participants.
Aside from the original 12-hour races for both mountain bike and trail runs, there will be additional categories this year, among them are 6-hour MTB race on the first day, and 6- and 3-hour trail runs on the second day, both of which are open to both male and female competitors.
Daphne Uy-Sanchez of Filinvest City marketing head described the event as “uniquely Filinvest City.”
“This is only ours… the endurance concept in an urban setting. We want to tell people that there is an available alternative”, she said during the media launch of the event at the Crimson Hotel.
With a wider selection of racing categories of shorter durations to choose from, the latest Endurance Weekend opens the activity to a broader market base.
The races are set to take place on Nov.8 and 9 at the picturesque nature trails within Filinvest City. Lined with shady palm trees and greenery, the popular trails make the race an enjoyable attempt for participants to beat their personal records (PR).
“While there will be prizes and medals for all the winners in the different categories, for most of the participants it is reward enough to know that they can take on a race this tough and come out of it a better cyclist or runner,” said Filinvest City project head Dondon Mari Ubaldo.
He said organizers are expecting to double the 500 participants from last year.
Among the notable additions are more hilly portions and a 3 km mix of trail and road for the multiple laps.
Adding to the festive atmosphere on race weekend will be side activities for both racers and spectators.
