IF people had a choice, they would choose to wear the best quality items when it comes to style. Often, they rely on the price tag as a guarantor of quality-the more expensive an item is, the higher its quality. But a study on shoes shows that is not always the case.
RunRepeat conducted a study based on reviews of people who bought shoes. According to the study, as the price of a pair of sneakers goes up, user satisfaction tends to become lower than average. In other words, expensive sneakers don't always make you happier.
The study covers 185,959 reviews of 1,000 of the most popular brands of sneakers around the world based on the RunRepeat database. Using regression analysis, the study discovered there is no statistical correlation between the price of sneakers and how highly these were rated by its users. Users reviewed the sneakers using a scoring system that has a total of 100 points, based on 1- to 5-star ratings left by any visitor in RunRepeat.com.
The study also listed the 10 most expensive sneakers and the 10 most affordable sneakers. In the infographic below, you can see at a glance that price does not affect satisfaction rating based on the average scores of the brands.
However, it should be noted that in the 10 expensive shoes, four brands got a score higher than 90, with one scoring a perfect 100. In the affordable shoes, only one brand got a score higher than 90.
The 10 most expensive sneakers included Balenciaga Track Trainers, Gucci Rhyton Gucci Logo, Gucci Ace Embroidered Sneaker, Balenciaga Triple S Trainers, Balenciaga Speed Lace-Up Knit, Nike Hyperadapt 1.0, Raf Simons Detroit Runner, Comme des Garcons x Nike Cortez Platform, Adidas x Raf Simons Ozweego Bunny, Nike Air Max 97 LX Swarovski.
The 10 most affordable sneakers included Airwalk Legacee, Keds Chillax, Keds Champion, Keds Kickstart, Native Miles, Skechers Arcade - Chat Memory, Vans Authentic, Vans Slip-On, Vans Era, and Converse Chuck Taylor All Star Low Top.
Nike and Adidas are the two biggest brands of sneakers in the world, each with a massive global following. In terms of satisfaction ratings, the two brands land in the middle of the list, which includes data from reviews on their luxury, premium, and affordable line of sneakers. Overall, the two giants score a comfortable satisfaction rating of above 85 for all their line of sneakers across all their price ranges.
RunRepeat's study not only sheds light on the effect of sneakers' price on a user's happiness, it also revealed that some brands are really popular than others. Some of these high satisfaction ratings could be attributed to brand loyalty, which is the positive feeling and dedication to purchase the same product or brand now and in the future.

There are many factors that affect a person's satisfaction when it comes to buying sneakers. These include product quality, style, and even the status symbol that comes with the brand. But one conclusion that the study found is that pricing does not affect a person's satisfaction about sneakers.
