AT the EastWest Dream Run 2026 Manila leg, the women's 21K podium celebrated not only athletic excellence but also perseverance and family, thanks to three mothers whose stories embodied the event's spirit.
Leading the way was 21K women’s champion Marickz Camacho, whose running journey began at age 26 after her husband encouraged her to try running to improve her health. That simple fitness pursuit soon became a passion, with Camacho committing to rigorous training and eventually earning podium finishes after years of dedication.

Now 38, she continues to compete at an elite level while embracing motherhood, even racing as a breastfeeding mother to her 5-year-old son, proving that women do not have to choose between their passions and family life.
“Ang aking anak ang biyaya sa akin, ang aking inspirasyon sa pagtakbo," she said.
Runner-up Jocelyn Elijeran, 48, started running in 2013 and, just a year later, was already completing 50-kilometer marathons.
She was inspired by her husband Nelson, a former Palarong Pambansa runner who represented Cotabato in his youth. Her daughter is now pursuing a degree in Sports Science at the University of the Philippines Diliman and competing as part of the women’s track and field team under coach Rio de la Cruz.
Completing the podium was Nikka Panlaqui, a 37-year old full-time mom who now finds greater purpose in setting an example for her son who has taken up swimming himself, showing how a mother’s passion can shape the next generation.

Through her journey, Panlaqui hopes to encourage fellow mothers to continue prioritizing their health and pursuing their own dreams, even amid the demands of parenthood.
Together, the stories of Camacho, Elijeran, and Panlaqui highlight a powerful message: motherhood is not a limitation, but a source of strength.
Through sport, they are achieving personal milestones while inspiring other women to prioritize their well-being, pursue their dreams, and lead by example for their families and communities.
