THERE is no questioning the influence of Team Lakay and Igorot ONE Championship stars when it comes to Philippine mixed martial arts as they're often credited by young fighters as inspirations for their careers.
But being credited for the "look inspo" by one of the biggest stars in Philippine show business, Daniel Padilla? That's something new.
That's exactly what Padilla told Esquire in the interview for his hit Netflix TV Series Incognito, sharing that he got the idea of having a mullet hairstyle from the fighters based in Benguet.

“I got the idea ng mga buhok na to sa mga Team Lakay sa Baguio, mga mixed martial arts fighters natin. Lagi akong nanood kasi niyan e, yang ONE Championship. Nakita ko mga Pilipino nating fighters, ganito mga ganito buhok taga Baguio," he said of his role as Andres, an Igorot paramilitary operative in the show.
"Ang character ko Igorot e, at mga Igorot itong Team Lakay. Doon ko nakuha ang inspirasyon na kunin ang buhok na yun.”

He revealed how his director, Lester Pimentel Ong, already understood the connection as Ong himself is close to some of the fighters up north.
Ong was a Philippine National Wushu Team member and crossed paths with former two-time ONE Lightweight MMA World Champion Eduard Folayang and Team Lakay mentor Mark Sangiao during his time with the team.
"Di ko na nga sinabi kay direk yun e, nung nakita niya, alam na niya rin," he said.
"May mga ganung kasing research, di ba? Hindi naman pwedeng kung ano lang trip mo yun na yun. You have to pay respects also sa culture, kung sino ba at taga saan ba si Andres. " Padilla said.
