WHO says an avid Michael Jordan fan can’t own a Boston Celtics jersey?
Well, the ‘Spiderman’ Arwind Santos does.
The 36-year-old San Miguel Beer star was clad in green and white on Thursday during the PBA Homecourt as he wore a camouflage No. 33 Larry Bird jersey while doing the rounds of basketball playgrounds in Barangay Bagbaguin, Valenzuela.
The pricey Celtics attire certainly looked good on one of the stylish pro players around - even if he's not exactly a Boston diehard.
“Ang team ko dati Chicago kasi andun si Michael Jordan,” said the former league MVP, adding he now roots for LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers.
The Celtics jersey was actually given to him by his cousin from the US who’s into the business of selling basketball shirts. Also a recipient of a separate NBA apparel was San Miguel teammate Chico Lanete.
“Binigay lang ng pinsan ko ito,” said Santos. “Business niya kasi ito. He’s into marketing yung mga different NBA jerseys.”
Told that the jersey is quite a bit pricey in the market, Santos could only give out a sly grin.
“Mahal ba ito? Hindi naman,” said a smiling Santos.
And why ‘Larry Legend?’
“Natapat lang na ito (Larry Bird) ang suot ko,” he said of the legendary Boston wingman, whose one of the greatest NBA players of all time.
“Pero magaling si Larry Bird.”
For a while, Santos admitted he grew fond of the Celtics during the time of Paul Pierce but as a kid growing up, it was all about the ‘Airness’ for him.
“Jordan talaga ako,” he stressed.
And that was pretty obvious judging from the Jordan 11 sneakers he wore.
