Athletes, as public figures, have the uncommon power of influence. And with that power, naturally, comes responsibility. Agatha Wong and Jamie Lim—both Filipino Southeast Asian Games gold medalists—are aware of this, and so took it upon themselves to live up to find a way to use their influence for good.
In April and through to May, Wong and Lim held an Instagram Live series to raise funds for medical frontliners in the battle against COVID-19. On Instagram Live, they hosted a five-part series in which they talked about sports, fitness, and current events with their fans and followers.
“We both wanted to help the frontliners at PGH (since it’s one of the main COVID-19 referral centers), and COVID-19 patients in Quezon City health facilities (since we’re both from QC)," Lim said. "In addition, we also thought it would be an opportune time to inspire people with our experience as athletes and promote sports, especially to the younger generation.”
In this episode of Spin Sidelines, which is now brought to you as a podcast, Lim and Wong talk about how it all came about, how they pulled it off, and why it matters. They also talk about fitness and how they’re coping with the new normal.
