THERE's a Filipino spin on the new Anthony Edwards 2 line after adidas unveiled “Magpakitang Gilas,” a Philippines-exclusive take on Ant Man's signature basketball shoe, inspired by the energy of local hoops culture.
In the Philippines, basketball isn’t just played—it’s lived. From barangay courts to packed leagues, it’s where style, skill, and pride collide. The Anthony Edwards 2 “Magpakitang Gilas” taps into that mindset: show up, stand out, and bring your people with you.
As the official outfitter of Gilas Pilipinas, adidas continues to champion Philippine basketball through product and storytelling that reflect the culture from the ground up.

Design Rooted in Bayanihan
The Anthony Edwards 2 “Magpakitang Gilas” is a bold expression of Filipino pride and collective strength, brought to life through intricate design storytelling embedded in every detail of the shoe by Filipino designer Melvin Rodas.
A dynamic gradient of blue hues flows across the upper—from light to deep tones—symbolizing bayanihan, the shared effort of a community pushing forward together from day to night. This seamless gradation is executed across both shoes, reinforcing a unified narrative of consistency, connection, and purpose.
Contrasting the deep blues is a vibrant cool red sockliner—a modern, energized take on the red of the Philippine flag—creating a striking visual when worn while grounding the design in national identity. Accents of lime yellow, seen in the stitching across the tongue and upper, reinterpret the sun’s rays in a more contemporary, high-energy tone, adding brightness and movement to the silhouette.

Hyperlocal storytelling continues through hidden and tactile details. The inner tongues feature split messaging: “Magpakitang Gilas” on the left shoe and “Shine for the Squad” on the right, reinforcing both local pride and global attitude.
At the lace tips, subtle “Pilipinas” and “Basketball” callouts offer a playful yet meaningful nod to the game’s deep roots in the country.
Elevating the craftsmanship further is a custom debossed 3-stripe weave pattern across the upper—fusing Filipino-inspired textures with adidas’ iconic design language. This transforms the brand’s signature into a storytelling device, blending heritage with innovation.
Built for the Way the Game Is Played
On the performance side, the Anthony Edwards 2 stays true to the line:
• Lightstrike midsole for speed and responsiveness
• Boost cushioning for impact and comfort
• Secure fit for control on quick cuts and explosive moves
Built for the way basketball is played locally—fast, instinctive, and expressive.

A Story Shared by Filipinos All Over
Being able to work with adidas for this goes beyond designing a shoe—it’s about what it means to tell everyone’s story,” said Rodas.
“I wanted the design to reflect what basketball means to Filipinos: pride, teamwork, and bayanihan. The idea was to create something built by many and worn with pride—and something that carries the spirit of the Philippines in every detail.”
Developed under adidas Philippines’ partnership with Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP), the release further strengthens the brand’s commitment to growing the game locally.
