THE Philippine Dragon Boat Federation team collected its first medal— a silver — on Saturday in the 2013 World Dragon Boat Championships in Hungary.
The Filipino paddlers copped the silver in the standard mixed 500-meter event with a time of one minute, 57.37 seconds, less than a second behind gold medalist China (1:56.73).
Canada finished third with a time of 1:57.55.
The PDBF squad missed a podium finish twice in the first day of competitions, taking fourth place in the standard men’s 1,000m and standard mixed 1,000m.
The Philippines missed the bronze medal in the standard men’s 1,000m by a mere .1 second from the United States (3:57.34).
It was also a close race in the standard mixed when China took third with a time of 4:01.17, while the Philippines clocked 4:01.3.
