    Ylanan takes gold in karate World Cup

    PRINCESS Joanna Mae Ylanan captured the Philippines’ lone gold medal in the World Karatedo Federation Karate World Cup in Busan, South Korea.

    Ylanan defeated Park On You of Korea in the finals of the women’s -68kg kumite to win the gold. She reached the finals after beating Armandaei Nasim of Iran.

    Princess Diane Sicangco, meanwhile, won a silver medal in the -61kg kumite as she bowed to Chan Hau Yan of Hong Kong in the final.

    Sicangco defeated Jo Eun Ji of Korea in her first match and made it to the finals with a victory over Chan Pui Ho of Hong Kong.

    Meanwhile, Charles Bonagua also won a gold medal in the 2012 Korean Karate International Cadet, Junior and Children Championship also in Busan.

    Bryan Fontillas also took home a silver medal in the event while Alex Lay and Kristelle Ira Zabala captured the bronze medals.
