DANIEL Parantac captured the country’s third gold medal in wushu after he ruled the men’s taijijian on Tuesday in the 2013 Southeast Asian Games in Naypyitaw.
Parantac scored an aggregate of 19.38 points after collecting 9.68 in the second and final event of the taijijian competitions Tuesday to clinch the gold medal.
Parantac started the competitions by scoring 9.70 points and held a slim lead over Myein Chan Ko Ko of Myanmar.
It was the second medal of Parantac, who won the first medal for the Filipinos in the 27th SEA Games by winning the silver along with John Keithley Chan and Norlence Ardee Catolico in the men’s duilian event.
Earlier, Jessie Aligaga and Dembert Arcita claimed the Philippines’ first two gold medals in the sanda event.
It was a huge win for Parantac, who finished second two years ago in Indonesia.
“Leading din po ako noon pero nagkaroon ng knee injury and that cost me in the taijijian then,” said Parantac.
Winning the bronze medal is the team of Natasha Enriquez and Kariza Kris Chan in the women’s duilian.
