MIYUKI Tacay, Marionne Rebanal, and Joane Orbon made strong impressions to qualify for a spot in the national team, winning gold in the 5th Philippine Karatedo Federation National Karatedo Championship at the Fisher Mall Expo Hall in Quezon City.
Tacay defeated Camille Yamashita of the Philippine Typhoons national squad in the seniors women kumite -68kg, while Rebanal of the Ryo Shotokan Karate-do Club downed national team member Joana Mae Ylanan in the women’s kumite +68kg class.
Fil-American karateka Orbon the Philippine Karate-do Traditonal and Sports defeated Mabel Arevalo of Karate Development Arts and Sports in the senior women’s -61kg kumite.
PKF secretary general Raymund Lee Reyes said the winners of the tournament will undergo final screening to gain spots in the national squad.
Other winners in the kumite are national standouts Jayson Ramil Macaalay (men’s -60kg), Rexor Romaquin (men’s -67kg), John Michael Badil (men’s -75kg), Engene Dagohoy (men’s -84kg), Bryan Fontillas (men’s +84kg), Kristina Charisse Santiago (women’s -50kg), and Mae Soriano (women’s -55kg).
World Shotocup champion OJ Delos Santos won the advance kata 18-above competition.
