OJ DELOS Santos retained his title in the World Shotocup karate competition in Cape Town, South Africa.
Delos Santos successfully defended the crown he won four years ago in Cebu City as he competed in by 66 competitors in the men’s kata competition.
Delos Santos reached the last eight where he registered 42.5 points to beat Adam Pearce of Australia and Ben Skennar of Australia.
Philippine Karatedo Federation secretary general Raymund Lee Reyes said Delos Santos’ win is a good step in the right direction with the sport to be played in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
“It’s a sign that we have a good chance in the 2020 Olympics. Alam naman natin na mahirap mag-qualify sa Olympics. With this kind of win, nakikita namin ‘yung chance natin sa Olympics,” said Reyes.
