MALACANANG has declared August as Philippine Wushu Month as the country prepares to host athletes from 37 countries in the Asian Junior Wushu Championships.
The Asian meet is set August 8 to 12 at the Makati Coliseum and the government, through Proclamation No. 554, has called upon the different departments and agencies to support the event.
“All departments, agencies and instrumentalities of the national government, including state universities and colleges (SUCs), government-owned and -controlled corporations (GOCCs) and local government units (LGUs), are hereby enjoined to support and extend the necessary assistance in the observance of the ‘Philippine Wushu Month.’”
“It is appropriate to promote Wushu in the country and strengthen the Philippines’ support to the bid of the International Wushu Federation for the inclusion of the said sport in the Olympic Games.”
The Asian Junior Wushu Championships will coincide with the country’s hosting of the Fiba-Asia Championships from August 1 to 11.
