THE Philippine karatedo team salvaged a lone gold medal in the recent Southeast Asian Karatedo Federation Championship in Bangkok, Thailand.
John Matthew Manantan won the country's only gold by topping the cadet -57kg kumite event with a dominant 8-0 victory over a Thai fighter, in the championship match.
Manantan defeated a Cambodian fighter on his way to the gold medal bout.
The PH team also took home a bronze medal courtesy of John Marc Claveria.
The triumph came just a few months after the Filipino karatekas also brought home a single gold from the Karate World Cup in Busan, South Korea courtesy of Princess Joanna Mae Ylanan.
