JUNNA Tsukii captured a gold medal in the 50th International Karate Tournament Golden Belt in Serbia.
Tsukii announced the development on her Instagram account after competing against top karatekas in the world amidst the pandemic.
“I’m very happy to be able to (fight) with the top players in this time,” wrote Tsukii on her Instagram account.
The 2019 Southeast Asian Games gold medalist also thanked the Serbian Karate Federation and coach Roksanda Atanasov for the opportunity to see action in the Golden Belt.
The Serbia meet is part of Tsukii’s preparation for the Tokyo Olympics where she hopes to qualify.
Currently ranked No. 15 in the Olympic standings in the 55-kilogram division, Tsukii eyes to obtain one of the five remaining slots in Tokyo, three of which will be at stake in the World Olympic Qualifying Tournament in Paris in June.
The rest of the national team are training in Turkey for the Paris qualifiers with SEA Games gold medalist Jamie Lim, Joane Orbon, Ivan Agustin, Sharif Afif, Jason Macaalay, and Alwyn Batican also looking to earn a spot in the Olympics.
