THE Philippines defeated host United Arab Emirates, 2-1, to win the gold in the IIHF Ice Hockey Women’s Challenge Cup of Asia Division 1 in Dubai.
Bianca Yasmine Cuevas scored in the first minute, before the Philippines took a 2-0 lead with a goal by Danielle Lourdes Imperial in the 39th minute.
UAE cut the deficit to one goal on a score by Dana Alhosani but the host couldn’t connect on a game-tying goal.
Cuevas won the Top Forward plum.
The Philippines completed a sweep after also winning over Kuwait, 10-0 and India, 5-0.
