CARLOS Yulo secured a solid bronze medal showing in the men’s individual all-around of the Artistic Gymnastics Asian Championships in Jecheon, Korea on Thursday,
Yulo was unsuccessful in duplicating his gold medal last year in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, but nevertheless finished third against a much-tougher field that included reigning Olympic champion Oka Shinnosuke of Japan, who captured the Asian title with a score of 85.134.
Another Japanese gymnast in Hasegawa Tsuyoshi took the silver with a score of 83.967.
In his first competition since winning two gold medals in the Paris Olympic Games 10 months ago, Yulo scored a total of 83.633, bucked by finishing first in the floor exercise with a score of 14.433 and vault with a score of 14.5.
He also placed fourth in the parallel bars with 14.167, seventh in the rings with 13.633, and 10th in the horizontal bar with 13.800.
He will also be battling for medals in five of the six apparatus finals in the coming days, which include the floor and vault where he is the reigning Olympic champion.

Yulo finished 19th in the pommel horse with a score of 13.1.
Other Filipino gymnasts saw Juancho Miguel Besana placing 22nd with 71.167, John Ivan Cruz 29th with 60.667, Justine Ace De Leon 31st with 59.167, and Jhon Romeo Santillan 55th with 18.067 in the men’s individual all-around.
Cruz clinched a spot in the final of the vault after placing seventh with a score of 14.133.
