ELDREW Yulo will be competing in front of a hometown crowd later this year when the Philippines hosts the 3rd Artistic Gymnastics Junior World Championships from November 20 to 24 at the Marriot Grand Ballroom in Pasay City.
The younger brother of two-time Olympic champion Carlos Yulo is looking to impress in his first and last world competition in the juniors division before the 17-year-old joins his brother in the senior ranks.
First and last
“I hope I can make a good performance because I want to be one of the best junior gymnasts in the world,” Yulo said during Tuesday’s Philippine Sportswriters Association Forum.
“This is going to be my first and last time competing in the world juniors and in the Philippines. Next year I will be competing as a senior, so may konting pressure,” said Eldrew, who won the vault in last year’s Asian juniors championship in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.

Gymnastics Association of the Philippines president Cynthia Carrion is confident about Eldrew’s chances of winning a medal.
“I won't be putting any pressure on Eldrew, so I would be happy if he wins a silver at the world juniors,” said Carrion.
Yulo trained for a month under the auspices of his brother’s former Japanese coach Munehiro Kugimiya in Nagoya, Japan as part of his preparations.
Elizabeth Antone, who recently bagged a bronze in the Asian juniors championship, will compete in the girls division for the Philippines.
