CARLOS Yulo was impressed with the performance of younger brother Eldrew in the qualification round of the 3rd FIG Artistic Gymnastics Junior World Championships.

The two-time Olympic gold medalist was in attendance at the Marriott Grand Ballroom in Pasay City alongside his partner Chloe San Jose when his younger brother placed 15th in the all-around and made it to the finals with a total score of 78.332.
Eldrew also qualified in final events in three apparatuses by placing second in the floor with a score of 14.233, fifth in the vault with a score of 13.750, and sixth in the horizontal bard with a score of 13.700.
In an interview with SPIN.ph after the qualification round, Caloy said he was glad that Eldrew was able to show his improvements on the big stage.
“Overall, ok naman po. The experience was looking good. I’m just really happy na safe siya, and the team also na walang aksidente na nangyari today,” he said.
“I’m just really grateful. I know na ginawa niya ‘yung best niya. Kitang-kita naman po. Congratulations for the finals at mag-iingat siya.”
Carlos didn’t get the chance at a medal in world juniors championship since the event was only instituted in 2019, the same year he captured his first seniors world title.
Also in the venue were the Yulos' parents Angelica and Mark Andrew, as well as Carlos and Eldrew’s sister and fellow gymnast Eloisa, who is serving as one of the volunteers of the event being hosted by the Philippines.
Eldrew's pleasant surprise
While he was no longer surprised that his younger brother made it to the finals of the floor and vault, the former was amazed by the latter placing sixth in the horizontal bar.
“Sobrang galing niya po sa high bar. Pang-senior level na ‘yan actually. Sobrang nakaka-proud po,” Carlos said.
Carlos believes that Eldrew has what it takes to win a medal - even a gold, at that - in the four events that he will be competing in the coming days.
“Of course po, especially sa high bar,” he said. “Hindi natin alam po anong mangyayari kasi diyan po talaga, maraming nahuhulog talaga, kasi sa finals, parang siyang pommel horse. So like, focus lang talaga.”
“And sa floor, kayang-kaya. Sa vault din, kayang-kaya talaga.”
