CARLOS Yulo clinched a gold medal in the individual all-around competition at the 2024 AGU Artistic Gymnastics Asian Championships in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, on Thursday.
The Paris Olympics-bound Filipino gymnast amassed a total score of 84.931 to secure the gold, marking his seventh victory overall in the Asian competition - and his first in the individual all-around event.
Milad Kamiri of Kazakhstan claimed the silver with a score of 84.632, while Abdulla Azimov of Uzbekistan earned the bronze with a score of 82.431.
Yulo finally captures all-around gold
Yulo's long-awaited triumph in the individual all-around comes just two months remaining before the Olympics, where the 24-year-old came in as a favorite but failed to medal the last time in Tokyo.
The gold medal in the individual all-around comes with extra significance, since he narrowly missed out on it in the two previous editions of the Asian Championships.
Yulo settled for silver in last year's individual all-around competition in Singapore, finishing behind Shinnosuke Oka of Japan, and in the 2022 edition in Doha, where he was bested for gold by Chinese gymnast Shi Cong.
However, Yulo had previously secured three gold medals in the 2023 Asian Championships, claiming the top spot in floor exercise, vault, and parallel bars.

The two-time world champion also dominated these same events in the 2022 edition held in Doha.
