CALOY Yulo delivered on his initial targets in the 51st FIG Artistic Gymnastics World Championships, qualifying in the final of four events including the men’s all-around in excellent fashion on Monday in Liverpool.

As expected, Yulo topped the floor exercise qualification with a score of 15.266, putting himself in contention to regain the championship in the apparatus. The Filipino gymnast is also on target to defend his vault title as he finished second in the qualification with a score of 14.849.

Yulo’s entry in the finals of the all-around was also boosted by his fourth place in the parallel bars after ranking fourth with 15.300 to also be in contention for the medal.

Wataru Tanigawa of Japan placed first in the all-around with 84.731, while Olympic champion Daiki Hashimoto of Japan was in second with 84.665.

Prior to leaving for Liverpool, Yulo also said his goals were to make it to back to the finals after his silver in the parallel bars last year in Kitakyushu, Japan, while also looking to atone for his fifth-place finish in the floor where he was a world champion in 2019.

Yulo will get a shot at a medal in the men’s all-around in the worlds on Friday. The floor final will be on Saturday, while the vault and parallel bars will be on Sunday.

In the other apparatuses, Yulo finished 10th in the rings with 14.066, 31st in the horizontal bar, and 102nd in pommel horse with 11.766.

But it was still enough to propel him to the all-around final as he is on pace to improve his 10th-place finish in the all-around last 2019. He only saw action in three apparatus in 2021 due to injuries, making him ineligible to compete in the all-around.
