    Apr 26, 2017

GYMNAST Anya Mikhel Feraren added to the National Capital Region medal haul in the Palarong Pambansa, winning five gold medals in women’s artistic gymnastics held at the Binirayan Sports Complex in San Jose De Buenavista, Antique.

The 12-year-old Feraren ruled the exercise, balance beam, vault, and single bar to gain an individual all-around total of 76.9 points in the elementary competitions.

NCR continued to dominate the field with a total of 46 gold medals, 33 from gymnastics alone. NCR also have 17 silvers and seven bronzes at posting time.

Records were broken in the pool as NCR swimmers Mark Jiron Rotoni and Meah Nicole Pamintuan ruled their respective heats.

Rotoni, 15, submitted a time of two minutes, 28.85 seconds in the 200-meter breaststroke secondary boys heats, breaking the 2:30:42 mark set by Rafael Chua 19 years ago.

Pamintuan broke the one-minute barrier during the 100m freestyle secondary girls heats, clocking 59.83 seconds to beat the record of 1:00.28 set by Loren Echavez in 2010.

In athletics, Veruel Verdadero of Calabarzon topped the secondary division 100-m dash in 10.96 seconds to bag his first-ever Palaro gold.

Danica Jane Cambate of Eastern Visayas won the girls’ side 13.16 seconds.
