Yuka Saso had control early but Virginia Elena Carta came up with back to back birdies from No. 9 to gain the upper hand.

YUKA Saso’s fine run ended in the semifinals as Italy's Virginia Elena Carta won, 2 and 1, in the US Women’s Amateur on Saturday in Pennsylvania (Sunday, Manila time).

The 19-year old Carta, the NCAA champion, outlasted the 15-year-old Filipina Japanese, a winner on the Ladies Philippine Golf Tour.

Carta set up a title showdown with 16-year-old South Korean Eun Jeong Seong, who beat 18-year-old Mathilda Cappeliez of France, 2 and 1.

Carta, from Duke, is looking to become the second player to win the tournament and NCAA individual title in the same year.

Seong, on the other hand, is trying to complete an unprecedented US Girls' Junior-Amateur season sweep.
