YUKA Saso fired an opening 73 in the Japan Women’s Open on Thursday at The Classic Golf Club in Fukuoka.
The Filipina-Japanese golfer had two birdies and three bogeys to stand nine strokes off the pace.
South Korea’s Na-Ri Lee had a bogey-free eight-under 64, with five birdies on the front nine, to take the lead.
Sakura Koiwai of Japan also went bogey free at the 6,761-yard course and was in second, two strokes behind.
Momoko Ueda and Erika Hara had 68s in the opening round of the ¥112,500,000 (around P51 million) event.
