RICO Hoey, the first player from the Philippines to play on the PGA Tour, missed the cut in the Texas Open after a bogey on the last hole cost him a chance to play in the weekend.

Hoey, 29, bogeyed the par 4 9th hole (he started in the back nine), as he struggled to keep his round afloat in the event where the winner would have earned an invite to the Masters, if that player is still not qualified.

Hoey, who shot a three-under-par 69 in the first round, scored a two-over-par 74 in the second. His one-under-par 143 total was off by a stroke to make the cut. It was the fourth time he missed the cut in 11 events in the current PGA Tour season.

Meanwhile, Brian Harman won the Texas Open by three strokes Sunday, ending a victory drought since winning the 2023 Open Championship.

He had a three-stroke lead at the start of the final round and held on after shooting a 3-over 75 to finish 9 under for the tournament.

The two battled in a thrilling finals before Sagstrom ended the contest with a two-putt par on the 18th to keep her one-stroke lead which she snatched on the 16th hole.

Sagstrom appeared to be coasting to victory after posting a 4-up lead through six holes. But the lead dissipated following a series of poor shots and Coughlin took the lead on the 12th.

The score was tied on the 15th and Sagstrom again took the lead on the 16th and held on to win.

Meanwhile, Fil-Japanese Yuka Saso had a forgettable outing in the championship where she failed to advance after losing two of three matches in the round-robin phase of the competition.

Advancing from her group was South Korea’s Narin An, who won all her three matches. An, however, lost in the round of 16 to Thailand’s Ariya Jutanugarn, 1-up.

Jutanugarn, on the other hand, reached the semifinals but eventually lost to Coughlin, 1-up.

ANGEL CABRERA HEADS TO MASTERS WITH A WIN IN CHAMPIONS TOUR

Angel Cabrera, who served a prison sentence for physical violence against two women, won his first tournament since being released, capturing the James Hardie Pro Football Hall of Fame Invitational on Sunday.

Cabrera, a former Masters and US Open champion, shot a one-under-par 71 in the final round to take home the title, giving him a boost as he heads to the Masters where he was invited to play being a former champion.

Cabrera, 55, had only played twice on the PGA Champion’s Tour and was able to get in only after Mark Hensby withdrew.

He made the most of the opportunity and is now exempt for two years on the Champions Tour after his first victory in 10 years.

Cabrera won the Masters in 2009 and then lost in a playoff in 2013 to Adam Scott. He won the US Open in 2007. Masters champions get lifetime exemptions to the event.

Cabrera was incarcerated, first in Brazil, then in Argentina after being convicted for threats and harassment against two ex-girlfriends and jailed for three years and 10 months.

In a recent Interview with the Daily Mail, Cabrera said: “The lack of freedom is something really difficult, really hard. And on the other hand, you know, I can tell you that the most important thing I feel right now is the second chance, the opportunity to get back on the right track.”
