TONY Lascuña hit a hole-in-one on No. 12 and finished with a two-under 69 to take a share of the lead with Benjie Magada in the first round of the P1.5 million ICTSI Riviera Classic on Wednesday at Riviera’s Langer layout in Cavite.
Lascuña birdied No. 9, his finishing hole on a hot day, while Magada had a missed green bogey-mishap on the 18th.
They were one stroke ahead of Clyde Mondilla, Zanie Boy Gialon and John Rey Pactolerin.
Mondilla hit two birdies in the last five holes, while Gialon negated his bogey on the par-5 No. 5 with birdies on Nos. 9 and 10.
Pactolerin birdied his finishing hole to gain a share of third.
Mars Pucay, Frankie Miñoza, Rufino Bayron, Mhark Fernando and Korean Seok Jun Min matched par 71s, while defending champion Elmer Salvador, Jay Bayron, Jessie Balasabas, Miguel Ochoa and Keanu Jahns were another stroke behind in the tournament offering a top prize of P270,000.
“The course is tough and I kind of struggled with my putting. I was just lucky to start with a hole-in-one,” said Lascuña, still in pursuit of his first win this year after racking up five victories last year.
The Davaoeno shotmaker used an 18 degree Hybrid and a Srixon ball in scoring a hole-in-one on the 234-yard No. 12 for his fifth career ace.
Miguel Tabuena, winner at Splendido, stumbled with a double-bogey on No. 11 and dropped a shot on the 17th but hit one birdie at the front to drop into a big group at two-over 73, including Dutchman Guido Van der Valk, Dino Villanueva, Rolando Marabe, Korean Woo Seung Bin, Artemio Murakami, Marvin Dumandan, Solomon Gines and Thomas Kim in the seventh leg of the ICTSI Philippine Golf Tour.
