    Tony Lascuna overcomes bad start to take two-stroke lead after one round at Forest Hills

    Tony Lascuna comes up with three birdies on the front nine and four on the back. 

    TONY Lascuña recovered from a bogey on the opening hole to fire a six-under 65 for a two-stroke lead over Clyde Mondilla and three others after the first round of the ICTSI Forest Hills Championship on Wednesday in Antipolo.

    Lascuña got back to even on the third hole and added two more birdies on the front nine and four on the back.

    “My irons clicked and so was my putting,” said Lascuña, who is eyeing his third win on the Philippine Golf Tour this season after victories at Luisita and Eagle Ridge.

    “I had a good rest after coming back and just happy to sustain my form and shoot this well,” said Lascuña, who placed 11th in the Queen’s Cup on Sunday.

    Mondilla, who also has two wins this season, came up with a 67 that was matched by Michael Bibat, Park Min Ung of Korea and Nelson Huerva.

    Park was even on his first nine but made four birdies on the homeward nine, including the last two holes.

    Joenard Rates, Marvin Dumandan and Charles Hong shot 68s for joint sixth, while Jay Bayron fired a 69 for a share of ninth with Benjie Magada, Arnold Villacencio and Reymon Jaraula.

    Mars Pucay, winner of the last PGT Forest Hills event in 2010, mixed four birdies with the same number of bogeys and shared 13th spot with Jerson Balasabas, Rene Menor and Japan’s Yuta Sudo.

    John Rey Pactolerin, Jun Bernis, Korean Park Jun Song, Orlan Sumcad and Danny Zarate had 72s, while Dutchman Guido Van der Valk, Jhonnel Ababa, Randy Garalde, Justin Quiban and James Ryan Lam, who shot 73s.

    Jobim Carlos had a 74 and was tied with Elmer Salvador, Rico Depilo, Paul Echavez, Richard Abaring,and Rolando Marabe Jr. in the tournament backed by Custom Clubmakers, adidas, KZG, Summit Mineral Water, Srixon, Pacsports, TaylorMade, Sharp and Champion.
