Oct 12, 2016

SOFIA Chabon birdied two of the last five holes and submitted a two-under 71 for joint fourth in the first round of the Thailand Ladies Amateur Open at the Legacy Golf Club on Tuesday in Thailand.

Chabon trailed Malaysia’s Nur Durriyah Damian by four strokes.

The young Filipina golfer, who helped Manila Southwoods-Masters to victory in last week’s PAL Ladies Interclub in Baguio, had two birdies and two bogeys on the front nine before coming up with a strong finish.

She birdied No. 14 from long range and closed out with a tap-in on the par-5 No. 18.

Chabon shared fourth spot with Thais Tunrada Piddon, Chalakorn Wongsith and Rina Tatematsu.

Damian birdied four of the first five holes on her way to a 67.

Pauline del Rosario, last year’s winner of Thailand’s premier women’s amateur championship, struggled with four bogeys on the front nine, including three straight from No. 2, and limped with a 77.
