TOP seed Rupert Zaragosa and No. 10 Noel Langamin set up a title showdown in the 2016 Philippine Amateur Open Match Play Championship at the Orchard Golf and Country Club in Dasmariñas, Cavite.
Zaragosa won 1-up over No. 5 Luigi Guerrero on Thursday , while Langamin upended No. 5 Yuto Katsuragawa of Japan, 3 and 2.
Facing the most serious threat in his title drive following a series of lopsided victories, Zaragosa leaned on his solid putting to frustrate Guerrero and stay on course for another match play title following his victory in the MVPSF Visayas Regionals in Cebu three weeks ago.
Fifth seed Diana Araneta shocked top seed Kristine Torralba, 3 and 2, to reach the women’s final against Korean Hwang Min-jeong, who routed No. 2 Jona Magcalayo, 6 and 5.
Araneta earlier scored a 6 and 5 win over Korea’s Koh Eun Ah.
Hwang, who won last year’s Mt. Malarayat leg of the Ladies Philippine Golf Tour, beat Tomi Arejola, 5 and 4, before downing Magcalayo.
The pro-bound Zaragosa earlier stopped the giant-killing spree of Marc Lu, 3 and 2, while Guerrero beat Japan’s Takuya Kawamura, 4 and 2.
Langamin won 1-up over second seed Tom Kim of Korea before beating Katsuragawa in the PLDT Group National Amateur Golf Tour event conducted by the National Golf Association of the Philippines and sponsored by the MVP Sports Foundation, Smart, PLDT, the Philippine Sports Commission and Metro Pacific Investments Corp.
Both finals are set over 36 holes, while the matches for third are 18-hole duels.
