FORMER national champion Rupert Zaragosa heads the cast in the 19th WExpress-DHL RVF Amateur Golf championship presented by the MVP Sports Foundation teeing off Tuesday at Canlubang Golf and Country Club in Laguna.
Zaragosa, runner-up to Fil-German Keanu Jahns last year, has been grouped with Luigi Wong and Korean expat Park Min-ung.
Left-handed Andres Saldana, a veteran considered ripe to make the jump to the pros, as well as other members of the Alabang squad that will see action in the Interclub tournament in Bacolod next week are also entered in the event that is also part of the PLDT Group Amateur Tour.
A short program will usher in the 72-hole tournament, with officials of the organizing National Golf Association of the Philippines set to release 78 balloons in honor of the departed patron of the tournament and former NGAP president Rod V. Feliciano.
Feliciano, who was in charge of the NGAP from 2000-2004, passed away last year.
The whole Del Monte crew also gearing up for the Interclub has also made the trip, with Mel Cubillo and Magno Arancon among the fancied bets to win the event that counts the likes of Juvic Pagunsan and Singapore’s Quincy Qwek as former champions.
Reigning world 13-14 age group champion Kristopher Arevalo and fellow Callaway Junior world veteran Raymart Tolentino loom as the dark horses in the event also backed by Pancake House, Golf Depot and Pacsports.
The ladies side of the event, where the core of the ICTSI team led by Pauline del Rosario and Abegail Arevalo, will be seeing action, starts Wednesday.
