RICO Hoey comfortably made the cut after shooting a 1-under-par 69 in the second round of the PGA Tour’s Rocket Classic on Saturday (US time).
Justin Quiban, the other Filipino campaigner in the field, was not as fortunate. He scored a 5-over-par 75 and will miss the cut in his second PGA Tour appearance following a stint in the 2021 3M Open where he also failed to advance to weekend play.

Quiban was 7 plus overall after a 72 in the first round. The cut was at 3 under.
Hoey, 30, is 5-under-par for the tournament after a 66 in the opening round at the Detroit Golf Club, and is tied for 32nd place, a drop from his 13th place tie the day before.
Hoey had six birdies but was undone by a double bogey and 3 bogeys as he trailed tournament leaders Cameron Young, Patrick Fishburn and Patrick Cantley by five shots.
The three leaders were at minus 10 with Young posting a second round 61 to jump into a share of top spot from 68th place. Fishburn and Cantley each shot a 66.
Tied in fourth place are Rickie Fowler (68) and Matt Wallace (64). Fowler won this tournament in 2023, his last PGA Tour win.
Ryu seizes AIG Women’s Open lead
Haeran Ryu had a double bogey early but it did not stop the South Korean from taking over the lead at the AIG Women’s Open after a second-round 2-under-par 69 Friday, putting her on track for a third straight major victory.
Ryu double bogeyed the par-3 5th, but rolled in five birdies to charge on top of the leaderboard at Royal Lytham & St. Annes, one stroke ahead of Shiho Kuwaki of Japan who shot a 70.
Overnight leader Jeeno Thitikul and Yealimi Noh were tied for third, two strokes behind Ryu.
Thitikul, seeking her first victory at a major, made three bogeys in her 73, while Noh carded a 70.
"I'm just trying to have fun on the course because this course is (very) stressful," Ryu said, saying the layout has too many bunkers .
Ryu is trying to match the record established by Inbee Park in 2013 when she won three straight majors. Ryu won the Women's PGA at Hazeltine and closed with 60 to win the Evian Championship, the LPGA’s last two major championships..
Nelly Korda, who also have two majors this season, shot a 68 and was six shots off the lead.
Meanwhile, Yuka Saso will be playing through the weekend after firing a 2-over-par 73 to make the cut at 4 over. She is tied for 45th place, 9 strokes behind the leader.
Saso had two birdies to go with her four bogeys. She shot a 72 in the first round and is 3 over for the tournament.
