RIANNE Malixi’s worst nightmare just became a reality.
The Filipino amateur star missed the cut at the Augusta National Women’s Amateur after firing a one-under-par 71 Friday that was gutsy and courageous, but not enough to make the final round.
Malixi ended her campaign tied for 33rd place on rounds of 73-71 even par at Champions Retreat Golf Club in Georgia.
But what hurt the most was Malixi making an error on her final hole, a par 5, where she made bogey that eventually caused her to miss the cut by one.

Malixi had a one-over 73 in the first round Thursday, and though she made an inauspicious start in her second round with a bogey on the 17th hole, her eighth hole after seven straight pars (she started on the back nine), she made up for it with three birdies, one of them on her penultimate hole.
That gave her a one-under total, the cutline, needing just a par to continue her journey. That never happened.
Better luck next time, Rianne
It was another disappointment for the 19-year-old who is in her freshman year at Duke, and was one of the favorites before the start of the tournament.
She failed to complete the tournament last year after withdrawing during the first round due to a back injury and missed the cut on her first try in 2024.
American Asterisk Talley shot a five-under-par 67 to take a one-stroke lead in the 54-hole tournament in which the final round will be played at Augusta National, home of the Masters which will start on Thursday (Friday in Manila).
Tally was at 133 through 36 holes, 11 under par, and led Colombia’s Maria Jose Marin and Sweden’s Meja Örtengren by one stroke.
