AMATEUR golfer Regan de Guzman and Symetra Tour player Dottie Ardina emerged as the top Filipinas in the opening round of the LPGA Qualifying Tournament Stage III on Wednesday in Daytona Beach, Florida (Thursday, Manila time).
De Guzman fired a 71 for a share of 22nd spot, hitting three birdies and two bogeys at the Hills Course.
Ardina came up with two birdies and a bogey also at the Hills Course to join the bog group at 22nd.
The top 20 from the field of 156 after 90 holes will earn full LPGA Tour cards and the next 25 and ties will get conditional status.
Clariss Guce hit 72 on the Jones Course, hitting three birdies and three bogeys for joint 38th.
Princess Superal struggled on the Hills Course, suffering three consecutive bogeys from No. 13 and winding up with a 76 for a share of 111th place.
Mia Piccio was at 141 after a 78th on the Hills Course.
Cyna Rodriguez brought up the rear with an 83 also at the Hills Course, hitting three birdies, three bogeys and suffering a double bogey and three triple-bogeys.
University of South Carolina senior Katelyn Dambaugh and Thailand's Pannarat Thanapolboonyaras swt the pace at 5-under 67.
