Angelo Que is gearing up for a potentially record-breaking victory in The Country Club Invitational, scheduled to take place on Jan. 23 at the challenging TCC course in Canlubang.
Despite not securing a victory on home soil since dominating the field at the ICTSI Classic at Mount Malarayat in 2017, Que is driven to clinch his fourth triumph in the P6 million championship.
Ex-champs, Top 30 in the field
The event features former champions and the Top 30 players from the previous year's Philippine Golf Tour Order of Merit ranking.
Que, a three-time Asian Tour champion and a winner on the Japan Golf Tour, acknowledges the formidable challenge posed by a strong field of young players. While highlighting the significance of aiming for a fourth TCC Invitational win, a feat yet to be achieved, Que recognizes that the emergence of talented young golfers is the primary obstacle to his record pursuit.
Que, who secured victories in 2007, 2010, and 2011, stresses the importance of mental preparation as he approaches the championship.
Despite the presence of notable contenders such as Ira Alido, Rupert Zaragosa, Lloyd Go, Keanu Jahns, and others, Que remains focused on overcoming the mental hurdles presented by the demanding course layout.
Tabuena, Lascuna in the cast
The tournament, established in 2003 by ICTSI chairman/CEO Ricky Razon to honor his father and ICTSI founder Don Pocholo, boasts a competitive field that includes former champions Miguel Tabuena and Tony Lascuña, as well as two-time winner Frankie Miñoza. Defending champion Guido van der Valk, OOM winner Jhonnel Ababa, and other seasoned golfers like Clyde Mondilla, Reymon Jaraula, and Michael Bibat, among others.
Que's mental preparation strategy aligns with his determination to navigate the challenges of the TCC course successfully.
The event, organized by Pilipinas Golf Tournaments, Inc. and supported by PGTI's official apparel Kampfortis Golf, marks the beginning of the 10-leg PGT circuit this year.
