FRANCIS Casey Alcantara and Johnny Arcilla entered the semifinals of the PSC-Philta International Men’s Futures Open doubles competition after beating Lee Kuan-Yi and Liang Wen-Chun of Chinese Taipei on Thursday night at the Valle Verde Country Club in Pasig City.
Alcantara and Arcilla continued their winning ways after stunning second-ranked Katsuki Nagao and Hiromasa Oku of Japan, 7-5, 6-3, in the first round of the International Tennis Federation-sanctioned tournament.
Alcantara and Arcilla will face another Japanese pair in Issei Okamura and Kento Takeuchi in the semifinals scheduled on Friday.
Their semifinals appearance atoned for the exit of both Alcantara and Arcilla in the second round of the singles competition.
Top-seed Harry Bourchier and Enrique Lopez-Perez of Australia will take on third-ranked Kunal Anand and Vinayak Sharma Kaza of India in the other semifinal pairing.
The tournament is organized by the Philippine Sports Commission, Philippine Tennis Association, Pioneer Insurance, Babolat, Asian Tennis Federation and Philta president and Paranaque City mayor Edwin Olivarez.
