PRINCESS Superal took a share of fourth spot in stroke play and three other young Filipina golfers advanced to the Match Play phase of the US Girls Junior Championship on Tuesday at Forest Highlands Golf Club in Flagstaff Arizona (Wednesday, Manila time).
Miya Legaspi, Yuka Saso and Sofia Chabon also made it through the two-round strokeplay phase, although Pauline del Rosario will not be able to join them, falling just short.
Angel Yin of California had sizzling rounds of 66-65 to take medalist honors at 131, while Marijosse Navarro of Mexico scored 136 after rounds of 70-66 and Mariel Galdiano of Hawaii shot 141 (69-72).
Superal came up with rounds of 70-72 for a 142 total, which was matched by Bethany Wu (74-68) and Kathleen Scavo (73-69) of California and Gigi Stoll (73-69) of Oregon.
Legaspi was just a stroke behind Superal after carding 71 and 72 for a 143 aggregate, and will next take on Amanda Doherty of Atlanta, who shot 73-76 (149).
Yuka Saso was a couple of shots farther behind at 145 after a 74 and a 71, setting up a showdown with Nina Alexis Novilla of California, who made a 148 from rounds of 73-75.
Chabon, meanwhile, shot 76 and 73 for a 149 total, and will battle local favourite Hannah O'Sullivan of Paradise Valley, Arizona, who shot one-under 143 (71-72).
Del Rosario was just below the cut line at 151 after rounds of 75-76.
Eleven players finished at 150 and were down to 10 after two playoff holes for the final eight spots in the 64-player Match Play phase, but the playoff was halted due to darkness.
