US Girls Junior champion Princess Superal fired a three-under-par 69 on Thursday for 57 points and a four-point lead over Yuka Saso going into the final round of the 51st Southern Ladies Open presented by the MVP Sports Foundation in Davao.
The 16-year-old Superal broke par for the second straight day and moved in prime position to win the event for the third straight year after Saso, Superal’s Fil-Japanese teammate at The Country Club, also came up with a 69.
Superal has a 36-hole 115 tally, while Sofia Chabon is in third after a 51 for 100.
Sam Martirez bounced back from an opening 45 with a level 54 and is now just a stroke behind Chabon, even as Abegail Arevalo floundered with a 44 to drop to fifth with 95 points.
“I still hope to be steady for the final round,” Superal said. “Four points is a good lead, but nothing is safe in a course like this.”
Superal gunned down four birdies and signed for her second bogey in two rounds on the par-4 16th. On Wednesday’s opening round, Superal had five birdies and a bogey, which came on the 12th.
Meanwhile, Gendel Dela Cernal widened her lead to 10 points over Irene Shinmura after shooting 49 points for an aggregate of 99 in Class A play of the PLDT Group Amateur Tour event backed by the Philippine Sports Commission and Casino Filipino-Davao.
