Top local bet Princess Superal enters the Philippine Ladies Open confident after victory last week in Hong Kong.

PRINCESS Superal now trains her sights on the Philippine Ladies Open Golf Championship, hoping to end foreign players’ domination of the championship.

The 54-hole tournament is set Jan. 20 to 22 at the Midlands of the Tagaytay Highlands Golf and Country Club, with Superal among the top local bets.

Superal, a former US Girls’ Open champion, has won several titles in the Ladies Philippine Golf Tour and last week won the Hong Kong Ladies Amateur Open.

“Midlands is a tough course so we have to prepare hard and hopefully end Thailand’s domination,” said Superal, who struggled to finish seventh in last year’s staging of the event at Wack Wack but won four tournaments to end her 2015 campaign, including two in Malaysia and one each in Singapore and Jakarta.

Pimnipa Panthong won last year after now pro Supamas Sangchan scored back-to-back victories at Mt. Malarayat and Forest Hills from 2013.

Korea's Jeong Lee Hwa ruled the 2012 edition of the event at Southwoods. Chihiro Ikeda was the last home player to win the event.

Harmie Constantino, winner of last week’s Philippine Amateur Stroke Play Championship, is also expected to join the title chase along with Sofia Chabon, Abby Arevalo, Sam Martirez, Mikha Fortuna, Pauline del Rosario along with Yuka Saso, Felicia Medalla and former Junior World champion Daniella Uy in the tournament organized by the Women’s Golf Association of the Philippines and backed by Filinvest Alabang Inc., Metro Pacific, Philippine Daily Inquirer, Taishan Insurance Brokers, Inc., MEC, Jewelmer, G&W Clubshares Inc., Vermogen, and Tagaytay Highlands Ladies Chapter.
