    PH bet Princess Superal just two shots behind Asian Games leader after opening 69

    INCHEON, South Korea — Princess Superal fired a three-under 69 while Mia Legaspi scored 70 to stay within sight of the leaders after the first round of the Asian Games women’s golf competitions.

    Superal had five birdies to atone for a double bogey on the 10th hole to place in a tie for fourth in individual play with Katsu Minami of Japan and Kitty Tam of Hong Kong at the Dream Park Country Club.

    Legaspi tallied four birdies after bogeys on the 5th and 16th to share seventh with Hyeijin Choi of Korea and Ye Ziqui of China.

    Supamas Sangchan of Thailand leads the way with a 67 followed by Lee So Young of Korea and Budsabakorn Sukapan of Thailand with a 68.

    The fiery start of Superal and Legaspi also put them in contention for medals in the team events with the Philippines is in third place with a total of 139, just behind Thailand (135) and Korea (138).

    In tennis, Treat Huey and Denise Dy beat the Hong Kong pair of Wong Chun Hun and Ip Katherine Chung, 6-2, 6-4, in the first round of the mixed doubles event at the Yeorumul Center.

    Ruben Gonzales and Katharina Lenhert also won over Anne Mathema and Dawa Sonam Sherpa of Nepal, 6-0, 6-1.

    Lehnert lost to Eri Hozumi of Japan, 7-6, 7-5, and PJ Tierro was beaten by Chung Hyeon of Korea, 6-0, 6-3, in their second round singles matches.

    In triathlon, Ma. Claire Adorna placed seventh and Kim Mangrobang ninth in the women’s event while Jonard Saim and Nikko Huelgas finished 10th and 11th respectively.

    Jessie Khing Lacuna came in sixth in his heat in the 100m freestyle with a time of 51.89 seconds  but didn’t qualify in the final eight.
