THE composite Mount Malarayat layout in Lipa City will host on Monday an 18-hole qualifying event for four slots to the ICTSI-Philippine Open which will be presented by the MVP Sports Foundation and PLDT at the East course of Wack Wack.
Filipino and foreign pros and amateurs are eligible to take part in the event, provided that pros have valid tour licenses and amateurs have UNHS or USGA indices of 3 or better.
The Open returns after a one-year absence, teeing off on Thursday next week with a total pot of US$300,000. Mardan Mamat of Singapore, the 2012 winner, will be coming over to defend his title.
The National Golf Association of the Philippines, which owns the Open, has ceded two slots to national team members Rupert Zaragosa and Justin Quiban.
Zaragosa, the 16-year-old playing out of Canlubang in Laguna, will come into the tournament fresh from winning the men’s and boy’s match play titles in the last three weeks.
A minimal fee of P2,500 for local players and P3,000 for the foreigners will be charged with Mike Carr, an NGAP director who manages the Malarayat complex, acting as tournament director.
