THE Philippine Open has been reduced to 54 holes due to heavy rains, with the start moved to Friday at Luisita Golf and Country Club.
Typhoon Nona has caused heavy downpour and with more rains expected to hit the course in Tarlac on Thursday, the Asian Tour has been forced to move the event one day and trim it to three rounds.
“Typhoon Melor (international name) did not make landfall at the Luisita Golf and Country Club which is located about a two-hour drive from Manila but heavy rainfall has forced us to postpone the start of the event and reduce it to three rounds,” said Asian Tour Tournament Director Wanchai Meechai on Wednesday.
“The decision was made in the best interest of the tournament and our Asian Tour members,” he added.
Marcus Both of Australia is defending his Philippine Open title against a field featuring no fewer than 15 Asian Tour winners.
The Asian Tour season-ender has a prize pot of US$300,000.
