JUVIC PAGUNSAN came up with a steady 69 on Saturday but it wasn’t enough to make up for the wobbly 75 the previous round as the Filipino remained stuck way behind the leaders after Saturday’s third round of the Canon Open.
The 34-year-old Pagunsan hit three birdies on the front nine but traded a birdie for a bogey on the back for nines of 33-36 and a share of 38th place at two-under 214 at the Totsuka Country Club in Totsuka-ku, Yokohama.
That was 12 strokes off the pace after 2009 champion Yuta Ikeda came up with a third-round 68, his card blemished by a bogey on the par-4 No. 17.
Ikeda (202) enters the final round with a two-stroke lead over Ryo Ishikawa, Taichi Teshima and Jung-Gon Hwang.
Ishikawa had a near-flawless eagle-aided 66, Teshima scored the day’s best 65 and Hwang had a 67 for a 204 aggregate.
PGA Tour player Ishikawa had two birdies on the outward nine and added two more going back, plus the eagle on No. 13.
Teshima was eight under through 15 holes but dropped a shot on the Par-5 No. 16.
