THE Philippine team bound for the 2nd Asian Youth Games this year will heavily bank on Filipino golfers for the country’s first-ever gold medal in the event that will be held in Nanjing, China.
Chief of mission Nathaniel ‘Tac’ Padilla said a crack line-up was submitted by the National Golf Association of the Philippines for the August 16 to 24 tilt
NGAP submitted a line-up composed of Amelia Legaspi, Bianca Pagdanganan, Princess Superal, Samantha Andrea Martirez, Ruperto Zaragosa, and Gabriel Thomas Manotoc, all competing in the junior golf circuit abroad.
“We are hoping for a gold medal in golf,” Padilla, a renowned shooter and many-time Southeast Asian Games gold medalist, said. “Based on their credentials, malaki ang pag-asa natin dito."
The Philippines is set to compete in 12 of the 15 sports at stake in the quadrennial meet including athletics, aquatics, badminton, basketball, fencing, golf, judo, rugby, shooting, table tennis, tennis, and weightlifting.
Padilla said he's still in the process of finalizing the line-up of all sports.
The Philippines won a silver and a bronze in the initial staging of the event set in Singapore in 2009.
