Reese Ng and Emilio Gabriel Hernandez carried the cudgels for the Philippines, seizing the lead in their respective divisions in the Asian Junior Masters at the Black Mountain Golf Club in Thailand on Saturday.
Ng, a Grade 10 student at British School Manila, scattered three birdies against two bogeys to shoot a 71 in the girls’ Class A division.
On 1-under 143, Ng leads Chinese Shixin Kang by a single stroke. Kang returned a 73.
Lia Rosca carded a 73 to share third place, just two shots behind Ng.
In the boys’ Class C, Hernandez also shot a 71 to take a one-shot lead over a pair of Thais.
The Singapore School Manila student has a 36-hole total of 5-under, a stroke ahead of two Thai golfers.
Nicole Gaisano Gan, playing in the girls’ Class bracket, shot an even-par 72 to slip to second spot on 4-under, four shots behind Chinese Ningyao Xu who sizzed for a 67.
Lia Duque and Aerin Chan were running fourth in the girls’ Class B and D, respectively, while Miko Granada moved to fifth in the boys’ Class A.
