San Miguel survives final-round fightback by Megafiber to bag Fil-Am crown

SAN Miguel-Northern Cement I topped the premier Seniors Fil-Championship, edging Megafiber by a point on Thursday in the Fil-Am Invitational Golf Tournament in Baguio City.

San Miguel closed with 114 and a 487 total for the slim win over Megafiber, which had a day’s best 123 for a 486 aggregate.

Bong Sison led San Miguel with 31 poitns, while team captain and former pro Eddie Bagtas had a 28, which was matched by Benjie Sumulong, and Chito Laureta scored 27.

Megafiber, which started the day 10 points off, got 36 points from Rene Unson, who posted the only par score at Baguio Country Club, an eagle aided 61.

Jose Mari Hechanova scored 34 points, highlighted by an ace on No. 9 in the tournament presented by San Miguel.

Rolly Viray scored 28 and Ben Jacinto added 25 for Megafiber which.

Manila Southwoods started the day in second place but settled for third after a 104 and a 472 total.

Dugong Bughaw scored 110 for a 431 total to win the Am Championship title by 10.

Marlon Soriano had 30 points, Edgar Lee and Wilfredo Princesa added 27 each, and Ed Rendon scored 26 for Dugong Bughaw.

Ed Manzanares closed with a 31, Masakazu Saso scored 30, Jimmy Dy added 29 and Butch Bakunawa had 27 points for Nueva Ecija Seniors for a 117 and 421 total.

Manila Southwoods salvaged third after edging San Miguel-Northern Cement.

Southwoods closed with a 110 for a 411 tally to nip San Miguel which closed with a 108 and 410 aggregate.

San Miguel’s  Am-A team scored an easy win.

Efren Alvez scored 30, Herminio Salivio came in with a 29, Ariel Javelosa chipped in 27 points and Reynaldo Velasco scored 21 as San Miguel finished with 398 for a 56 point victory in Seniors Am A.

“We just tried our best and carried proudly the San Miguel name,” said Velasco.

Teerrifics closed with an 89 for 342 to tie Pines Golf of California, which had a closing 92. 

Camp Aguinaldo finished with an 86 for a 394 and a six-point victory in Seniors Fil-A over Philippine Navy.


EK Amigo had a 77 for a 355 total and an 18-point win in Fil-G.

John Marasigan scored 29, Rudy Ragragio added 19 points, Dan Pangilinan scored 15 and Danny Co had 14.

Miners Golf closed with 73 and 337 total to take second place, while LMG Const. Square & Compass NEE had an 80 for 336 to edge Square and Compass NE II by a point after the latter scored 64.

Saversmall scored 103 points to finish with 350 and edge three day leader Glutamax Men by one.

Simon Mangio scored 28 points, Dennis Antonio came in with 27, while Joel Fronda and Ringo Limjoco chipped in 24 each for Saversmall, which started the day in third but managed to overhaul a nine-point deficit.

Glutamax had 92 for 349, while Quick Flow Tab Con had 97 for 345.

Isabela Producers had a fourth day effort of 75 to finish with 355 for the title in Fil H.

Club Intramuros scored 64 and a 299 total to easily win Am-H.
